Goodbye! Maybe?
Well.. who would have thought the world could get this out of control? Empty shelves in all the supermarkets, full on brawls over toilet paper, borders closed, economies collapsing, the world essentially in lockdown. And why? A new strain of the flu. I certainly couldn't have predicted it.
Two weeks ago I handed over $20,000 to pay for most of my flights and group tours for my 5 months of overseas travel. At that point, the coronavirus had been around for 3 months and the effects were beginning to intensify across the world. Although, only a few cases had been recorded in Australia and it was hard to comprehend the full gravity of the situation. Especially when it was being compared to the flu. I had called my insurance provider and knew that I wouldn't be covered for any cancellations and I had missed out on being covered for medical expenses related to the virus by twelve days. I thought worst case scenario I'd get the virus overseas, go into lockdown for a few weeks, recover and then continue my trip.
But no. Now it's looking like the whole world will shut its borders. My holiday is obviously the teeniest, tiniest problem amongst all of this shamoz and I'm staying positive! I don't actually plan to fly out of Australia until mid-June so I'm just going to wait it out and hope the situation dies down a little bit by then (terrible choice of wording, I know). If I actually can't leave, I might go work in a remote indigenous community or something instead! My year off could possibly turn into two!
Next week I’m heading off on my Australian leg of the trip so my friends threw me a going away (maybe) party!
