Making The Most of Lockdown
Waking up in a super comfy bed knowing I made it safely to WA was a pretty good feeling. The bucket loads of toilet paper in the bathroom added to the positivity; got to love having a cleaner as a dad. After immediately checking if I had a sore throat or not (I didn't thank goodness) I concluded that I didn't have the virus yet and I could start to enjoy my time in WA. I had arrived only a few hours before they imposed the two week quarantine rule but I was going to be careful and stay home wherever possible, ensuring I maintained good hygiene and social distancing if I did leave the house.
My mindset had done an entire 360 since two days ago. On the plane I decided I wasn't going to let the lockdown of the world get to me. I would do the exact opposite. Shitty situations are only shitty if you think you are. I was planning to think of my situation as super fortunate. It just means I get to take another year off next year and complete my trip then! In the meantime I'm going to make the most of this year. On the plane I wrote a list of things I wanted to do in the lockdown. I'm going to keep adding to it but here it is so far:
Spend time with family
Cook healthy food for everyone as much as possible
Teach my dad to be more sustainable (start a worm farm, recycle, stop using a billion water bottles a day etc.)
Exercise (I now have an extra year to work on my Europe bod, plus there's so many exercise gurus offering free trials right now including Chris Hemsworth and Tim Robards!)
Add to my blog (I now have an extra year to get used to it, ready for my year of travel)
Go on small trips to the coast wherever possible
Fly my drone and learn how to use the camera properly
Finally start looking after my hair properly and doing treatments
Facetime friends
Make things
Learn a new skill
Organise my phone including deleting photos
Research holidays to do when I can (I am loving saving photos to albums on Instagram)
Watch Netflix
On day one I spent time with my little brother Riley, exercised, flew my drone (and crashed it), talked to family and friends on the phone, added to my blog and cooked tuna casserole for the family. Life is whatever you make it. One of the best quotes I've seen in in this crisis is this one: 'Our grandparents were asked to go to war to fight for their country, we're being asked to stay at home. We can do this!'
